The average life span of a solar panel is approximately 21 years and recycling options are currently limited in Australia. The introduction of the State Government solar rebate in 2008 and the life span of these panels and the hail storms and consequential insurance claims, have meant an increased amount of these items being disposed of at Landfill.
Solar panels can be disposed at Byfield, Cawarral, Emu Park, The Caves and Yeppoon Landfill waste facilities, a fee will be charged which assists with the costs of transportation of these items from our regional area to South Australia. The plant in South Australia reuses the frames and recycles the glass depending on the condition of the panel disposed.
